Fix files for the Fire & Ice image

De $1

Introduction

Some of us love the Fire & Ice image. Unfortunately, the #fix channel on discord has been removed, and the fix files hosted on mega too. With some other users, we compiled these files here. This is not meant to hurt anybody, just to help the people like me who really like DZ and Ransom's work on this image, and would like to polish it as it was intended to be. We might add extra fixes along the life of this image.

Instructions for fixes #1 to #30

And all the required files for fixes #1 to #30 are available in the next parts of this page. Thanks to @stamatko3 who kept them and uploaded them to my ftp server :-)

Fix #31 Rename duplicate Amiga games

Thanks to @jimiga who helped a lot providing infos to this section :-)

There are several duplicate names in the amiga set. This is because Ransom and DZ included variants of the same game.

You can easily fix these games yourself :

  • To see the name of the rom, click select/edit metadata while the game is selected in the list. On top of the ES dialog you will see the rom filename. This, most of the time, will give clues on the version.
  • You can also run the game and see yourself the difference.
  • Then in order to fix the file name, use select/edit metadata and with a keyboard, add the additional infos between parenthesis, for example.

Here is a list of the Amiga games we suggest to rename (a complete gamelist.xml will be provided once the community will have fixed all names) :

  • AAARGH! (appears twice) -> The first one is the version for the Arcadia system, an arcade cabinet that was sold during the Amiga lifetime, that had Amiga computer inside. The game were different as the player had to add coins to play. The second version of the game is the regular amiga one.
    • ACTION : Rename first AAARGH! to AAARGH! (Arcadia system)
  • Sidewinder (appears twice) -> The first one is the version for the Arcadia system, the second one is the regular amiga version with trainers.
    • ACTION : Rename first Sidewinder to Sidewinder (Arcadia system)
  • Crazy Cars III (Amiga, appears 3 times), these seem to be the distinctions:
    • Version 1: (first in the list): loads well, slowest to load
    • Version 2: loads faster, guessing it's a different version. Game seems identical otherwise.
    • Version 3: this version is Called Lamborghini American Challenge in-game, it's the US Edition
    • ACTION : V.3 can be renamed in the metadata by pressing Select > Edit this game's metadata. You only really need 2 or 3, depending on your location preference.

Fix #32 Below the root" (C64) returns a "File Not Found" error on load

By @Jimiga

  1. Allow game to get to "File Not Found" error
  2. Select + Triangle to access Retroarch Menu. Options > Drive8Type, then tap right on your controller until 1581 shows
  3. Back > Overrides > Save Game Overrides
  4. Back > Back > Quick Menu > Resume
  5. Select + Start to return to Emulation Station menu > Relaunch Game

The game should now display a Wyndam Classics load screen and after a couple of minutes loads normally.

It's a very cool little game, one of the earliest examples I know of a hybrid adventure/action platform game with you learning to gluide around a tree-top village environment blended with a traditional adventure with menu where you interact with the game's cast of characters to learn your objective, build skills and find answers to puzzles. Very ambitious for a 64k game, based on a novel. There weren't many like this at the time! Hidden :gem:

Fix #33 North & South (Amiga) not loading Returns a "Disk not Found" error, or black screen

The rom file is not correct, you need to download a new one.

Here are the steps:

  1. PC: Download Updated Game File: NorthAndSouth_v2.1_Image_0194.lha (567k)
  2. PC: Connect via WinSCP or ssh (mac, linux), navigate to /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/amiga
  3. Find and delete the files "NorthAndSouth_v1.7_Files_0194.lha" and "NorthAndSouth_v1.7_Image_0194.lha"
  4. Copy downloaded file "NorthAndSouth_v2.1_Image_0194.lha" from PC to /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/amiga

Then you need to change the name in EmulationStation and fix the path to Snap image (or you can manually edit the gamlelist.xml file if you know what you are doing):

  1. Pi: Restart Emulation station
  2. Navigate to "NorthAndSouth_v2.1_Image_0194" in games listing
  3. Highlight Game, press Select > Edit this game's Metadata
  4. Change name to "North and South"
  5. Change Image Path to /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/amiga/media/images/NorthAndSouth_v1.7_Image_0194.png
  6. Press Enter > OK then back out of the menu ensuring you save.

North and South should now load normally, and show the correct name and snap image in ES

Fix #34 Not really a fix, but a text file with all games recommended by ETA Prime, DZ and Ransom, madlittlepixels, etc.

This is provided as a reference...
